Speaking to the media outside the Assembly after the conclusion of a 21-day Budget Session<\/strong>, Omar addressed a wide range of political and security concerns currently dominating the Union Territory.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83d\udd25 \u201cTerrorism Was at Its Lowest in 2014\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cThe Government I was part of never tolerated terrorism. When we left office in 2014, militancy was reduced to just two-and-a-half districts,\u201d Omar stated, referring to his tenure in the NC-Congress alliance government.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He added that the zero-tolerance policy<\/strong> against terrorism had shown positive outcomes and that the revival of public engagement<\/strong> was necessary to completely wipe out remaining militant threats.<\/p>\n

\ud83e\udd1d \u201cPeople Must Be Taken Along\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Responding to Home Minister Amit Shah\u2019s recent zero-tolerance directive<\/strong>, Omar echoed the sentiment but stressed:<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout the cooperation of the people, we cannot succeed. In this fight, elected representatives and citizens must be actively involved.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

\ud83c\udfdb\ufe0f Statehood: A Promised Right<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Omar reiterated that the restoration of Statehood<\/strong> remains a non-negotiable demand:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our constitutional right. The Centre has promised it, and we hope the process will begin soon.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

\u2696\ufe0f Waqf Amendment Act Sparks Outrage<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The National Conference (NC) leader also defended his party\u2019s strong opposition in the Assembly<\/strong> over the Waqf Amendment Act<\/strong>, claiming it had hurt the sentiments of the Muslim majority<\/strong> in the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur MLAs wanted to express this pain inside the House. Since they weren\u2019t allowed, we will raise our voice outside the Assembly as well,\u201d he said, promising more clarity on the party\u2019s future course of action.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\ud83c\udfaf Jibes at PDP, People\u2019s Conference<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Taking sharp aim at rival parties, Omar accused the PDP and People\u2019s Conference<\/strong> of being responsible for Kashmir\u2019s political crisis:<\/p>\n

\u201cThose who once sat in BJP\u2019s lap are now pointing fingers at me. They misled the youth and took them to the Home Minister\u2019s events with toffees and cricket bats. Today, we are paying the price for their misdeeds.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Omar also addressed a controversy over a viral picture<\/strong> taken with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju<\/strong> at the Tulip Garden in Srinagar<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was pure coincidence. He wanted a photo; I couldn\u2019t have been rude. Now those who brought BJP into Kashmir are trying to use this against me.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf10 Free Trade, Global Policies, and the US-China Shift<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a surprising segue, the former CM also touched on global trade politics<\/strong>, criticizing the protectionist policies<\/strong> adopted by the United States<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica, once a champion of free trade, is now behaving like China. Meanwhile, China is promoting free trade. This reversal is strange and potentially harmful to global economic stability.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Recalling his time in the Vajpayee-led NDA government<\/strong>, Omar said:<\/p>\n

\u201cBack then, the US was the strongest voice against import restrictions. Today, they are the ones imposing them.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
