Precise forecasting of earthquakes and cloudbursts remains a challenge, scientific efforts are underway to identify contributing factors and provide possible early warnings. Cloudbursts typically occur when heat and humidity accumulate in a concentrated area and noted initiatives such as the Himalayan Ecology Mission to study these phenomena. There is need to establish a full-fledged India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Jammu and install four additional weather radars across the Union Territory, with the tendering process to be restarted following a limited initial response. The success of programmes across sectors depends on how effectively information reaches beneficiaries. Timely and accurate dissemination ensures transparency and encourages public participation in governance.\u00a0\u00a0While media has advanced in outreach and technology, there is scope to develop domain-specific journalism to provide citizens with detailed and accurate insights on complex issues. The minister in PMO informed that more than 3,000 lavender-based startups have been established across rural areas under the Aroma Mission, generating employment and income for local families. Earthquake early warning (EEW) is a relatively new strategy for reducing disaster risk and increasing resilience to\u00a0<a title=\"Learn more about seismic hazard from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/earth-and-planetary-sciences\/seismic-hazard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/earth-and-planetary-sciences\/seismic-hazard&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1758436473741000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3eA1hhcGfZRdoFW53_dyuu\">seismic hazard<\/a>\u00a0in urban settings. EEW systems provide real-time information about ongoing earthquakes, enabling individuals, communities, governments, businesses and others located at distance to take timely action to reduce the probability of harm or loss before the earthquake-induced ground shaking reaches them. Examples of potential losses mitigated by EEW systems include injuries and infrastructure downtime. These systems are currently operating in nine countries, and are being\/have been tested for implementation in 13 more. Early warning consists of a set of procedures and tools for disseminating actionable information in advance of a threatening circumstance, to reduce the potential risks involved. Earthquake early warning systems are primarily based on two concepts that enable alerts to be sent ahead of the occurrence of earthquake-induced ground shaking at target locations and most of the energy of an earthquake is carried by the S- and surface waves, which arrive after the faster, lower amplitude P-waves. This warning time, although short, can reduce the impacts of an earthquake on many sectors of society (Strauss and Allen, 2016). Individuals can \u201cdrop, cover and hold on\u201d or (if there is sufficient time) evacuate hazardous buildings\/move to safer locations within a building, mitigating injuries or fatalities. Automated actions can be taken, including the stopping of elevators at the nearest floor and opening the doors to avoid injuries, the slowing of high-speed trains to reduce accidents, the shutting down of gas pipelines to prevent fires, and the switching of signals to stop vehicles from entering vulnerable structures such as bridges and tunnels, etc. This is not an exhaustive list but rather a snapshot of critical applications that could benefit from EEW.
