NEW DELHI ,October 7:\u00a0Union Ministers\u00a0 Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Dr Jitendra Singh attend the meeting to announce\u00a0 relief package for\u00a0 flood affected farming families in Jammu & Kashmir<\/p>\n
Announcing the decision, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that\u00a0 the Central Government stands firmly with the people of Jammu & Kashmir during this time of distress. They announced that \u20b9171 crore is being directly deposited into the bank accounts of 8.5 lakh farmers in Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.<\/p>\n
Dr Jitendra Singh thanked PM\u00a0 Modi and\u00a0 Chouhan, and further informed that more than 5000 houses to be reconstructed damaged during recent rain, flood, and landslide-affected areas of Jammu division, with immediate relief, financial assistance, and technical support for rehabilitation and reconstruction. Each affected household will receive \u20b91.3 lakh as basic aid, with an additional \u20b940,000 per family to be provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the additional assistance of the government in this context, Dr Jitendra Singh said that special provisions are also being considered under NDRF and SDRF norms to support soil restoration and silt removal in the affected farmlands<\/p>\n
The Minister added that farmers whose crops were destroyed will also benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, with the state government and insurance companies expediting damage assessment surveys. Dr Jitendra Singh reiterated the government\u2019s resolve to provide employment support through MNREGA, extending workdays from 100 to 150 days in severely affected regions, compensation for animal losses, and housing support for families whose homes were destroyed.<\/p>\n
Dr Jitendra Singh commended local initiatives such as lavender cultivation and horticultural diversification in Jammu and Kashmir, calling them models of self-reliance and innovation in the Himalayan region.<\/p>\n
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that with the government\u2019s continued support through initiatives such as technology enabled progammes, drone technology, and Soil Health Card schemes, farmers are becoming increasingly self-reliant. He noted that agri-startups have successfully established themselves in Jammu & Kashmir, creating livelihood and driving innovation in farming practices.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan appreciated Dr Jitendra Singh\u2019s continuous efforts in engagement with the farming community of Jammu and Kashmir at ground level and reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to farmers\u2019 welfare. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Agriculture Ministry has ensured prompt implementation of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and crop insurance schemes in even the remotest border areas.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by senior officers and dignitaries from the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, and other officials associated with the relief operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
