“14 hours a day for 8 months — and I cracked IIT-JEE,” says Sopore girl inspiring Minister’s laptop initiative

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, today distributed laptops to topper girl students from various districts falling under his parliamentary constituency. The initiative, launched as part of his continuous efforts to promote education and digital empowerment among youth, aims to support bright students—especially those from economically weaker sections—by helping them access modern learning resources.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that while Diwali crackers light up the sky for a few moments, real celebration lies in lighting up young minds with knowledge and opportunity. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched several transformative schemes for women empowerment and education. This initiative is in the same spirit—ensuring that no deserving student is left behind due to lack of affordability or accessibility,” he said.
Highlighting the challenges faced by students in remote and rural areas, Dr Singh said that in today’s internet-driven era, many bright students are forced to rely on mobile phones for online classes and exam preparation. “During one of my interactions, a girl student from Sopore who cracked IIT-JEE told me she prepared for eight months, studying up to 14 hours daily—only using her mobile phone,” he shared. “That incident inspired me to begin this laptop distribution drive.”
Dr Singh emphasized that the laptops will help meritorious students prepare for competitive exams such as NEET, JEE, and civil services without being constrained by financial limitations. “This is our humble effort to ensure that every talented student, regardless of their background, gets equal opportunity to succeed,” he said.
He added that accessibility and affordability are often major obstacles in far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir, but initiatives like this aim to bridge that gap. “I am proud that many of our girl students are shining examples of hard work and determination. They are the future of our nation,” he said.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, parents, and education officials from multiple districts. Many students expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for providing technological support that would help them continue their studies more efficiently.
Dr Jitendra Singh reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting youth and women through education and empowerment initiatives in his constituency, saying, “Investing in education is investing in the nation’s future. These laptops are not just devices—they are tools of transformation.”
