Sports Mafia  Rising in J&K

Good governance is key to a prosperous and inclusive future of the sports persons of Jammu and Kashmir. But the corruption in sports department and Sports Council  become biggest stumbling block  for the promotion of sports in J&K. Not this the sports mafia have made all the recognised J&K Sports Council’s Sports Bodies their fiefdom. The transparency, accountability and sports persons participation missing  in all 57 sports bodies.  The sincere efforts  of elected govt in taking steps to promote sports and games through J&K State Sports Council and the Department of Youth Services throughout the State are getting frustrated because of a mafia having gained ascendancy and having till date, remained uncontained. Those Associations, Federations which have been de-affiliated by the National Federations and Central Government are still receiving grants- in – aid from J&K Sports Council caring not too hoots for repercussions for criminally violating the rules and regulations. Decoding this ‘sports mafia’,  one can authoritatively unravel the fact of a nexus in operation comprising unauthorized members of some  Associations and a few officials of the Council functioning in close propinquity  with one another. This is but only organized loot where genuineness in the entire gamut of things appears to be an oddity.  Will the new Khelo India centre  able to nurture talent as majority of  these centres already opened in J&K are defunct.  Chief Minister is committed to transforming Jammu & Kashmir into a hub of sporting excellence by creating world-class infrastructure and opportunities for athletes but the nexus between Sports Bodies and Sports Council and Administrative Secretary to Youth Services and Sports Deptt will prove  biggest stumbling  block in his way. The story  of growing corruption is not end here crore of rupees have been spend on purchase of sports materials by  the Sports council, but sports persons still spend their own pocket money to purchase shuttle cock, Badminton rackets, Football, handball, Volleyball etc. There is need to streamline functioning of sports council by amended its constitution  and restoring its autonomous structure
