Jammu, Nov 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday announced that the Human Resource Development Society (HRDS), an NGO, will construct 133 new houses for families in Poonch district whose homes were destroyed in recent Pakistani shelling amid heightened India–Pakistan tensions.
During his visit to the district, the LG said each house will be built at a cost of RS. 10 lakh and the entire project will be completed within six months . He added that the administration is committed to ensuring timely rehabilitation and providing secure living conditions to all affected families.
LG Sinha was accompanied by senior officials including J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat and IGP Kashmir, among others. The officials also distributed relief to civilians who suffered losses during ‘Operation Sindoor’ , assuring them that reconstruction will not be delayed.
The LG reviewed the ongoing rehabilitation measures and took stock of the overall security situation in Poonch. His visit reflects the administration’s continued focus on both relief operations and maintaining stability in the border region.
The latest escalation began after the Indian armed forces destroyed nine terror infrastructures in Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK). Pakistan retaliated by targeting civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, leading to the death of several civilians including a senior civil servant. Shelling also caused extensive damage to homes as well as a temple, mosque, Christian school and a gurdwara.
In response, Indian forces conducted strikes on Pakistan’s defence installations, reportedly damaging 14 military bases deep inside Pakistani territory.
