J&K Film policy  promoted at IIFI Goa

Kashmir has historically been a favorite destination for the film industry, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s, due to its picturesque landscapes and cost-effectiveness. Iconic films were shot there, and its use has seen a resurgence in recent years, with newer films and series being produced in the valley.  However, 1960s and 1970s was a golden era for filmmaking in Kashmir, with hit movies filmed there. The success of these films increased Kashmir’s popularity as a shooting location.  Unfortunatley, political instability led to a decline in film shoots during the 1990s. In recent years, there has been a significant effort to bring the film industry back to Kashmir. More recent movies such as Jab Tak Hain Jaan, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Rockstar, Haider, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan have been filmed in the region. The government is actively promoting film tourism and has identified new shooting locations to attract productions. In this connection, the Department of Information and Public Relations  has  promoted Jammu and Kashmir Film policy   in 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 held at Goa. During the festival, a grand J&K Pavillion was established in WAVES Film Bazaar  to promote J&K Film Policy, laid red carpet for the aspiring filmmakers to shoot in picturesque Jammu and Kashmir. J&K government  has given assignement to  promote the J&K Film Policy to its Commissioner Secretary  Information, M Raju; Director Information, Nitish Rajora; Joint Director Information (Hqrs), Dr. Zahoor Ahmad; Joint Director Information Jammu  Deepak Dubey; Nodal Officer, J&K Film Policy  Maheer Thakur and Cultural Officer Kashmir, Burhan Hussain at the grand film festival Goa. The DIPR  has promoted the J&K Film Policy 2024 during the festival, with main purpose of promoting Jammu & Kashmir as premier film shooting destination in the country and across the globe. The New Film Policy 2024 aims to promote large-scale Bollywood and international shoots in Kashmir. DIPR also promote Art, Culture, Cuisines as well as famed tourist destinations of Jammu and Kashmir during the festival.  More than 500 visitors interacted with the officers of DIPR at J&K Pavillion of WAVES Film Bazaar and enquired about various aspects of film shootings in J&K.  Many ot them  their showed willingness for visiting J&K for film shootings.  The J&K team also interacted with the filmmakers and  gave a presentation on J&K Film Policy 2024, to promote Film Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir during the knowledge series session on the sidelines of IFFI 2025,. J&K Film Policy 2024 is  being promoted  to make Kashmir as  one again a prime shooting destination. Pertinent to mention under the J&K Film Policy, 2024, Film Permissions are being given through online single window portal. The J&K Government provides 5-10% subsidy for Films, 10-15% subsidy for Documentary/Web-Series and Extra Incentives for Films/Documentaries/Web-Series which promote Jammu and Kashmir or are of patriotic theme.
