PP NEWS LINE DESK : A new administration of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been formed with former cricketer Mithun Manhas taking charge as the president. The elections, held ahead of the Annual General Meeting in Mumbai, saw all office bearers chosen unopposed, continuing the trend of consensus in BCCI since 2019.
Manhas, a former Jammu & Kashmir all-rounder, has become the first leader from the Union Territory to hold the top position in BCCI. His selection was seen as a move to give representation to states with lesser presence in the board’s top leadership.
Along with Manhas, Rajeev Shukla has been named vice president, Devajit Saikia takes over as secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as joint secretary, and Raghuram Bhat as treasurer. Arun Singh Dhumal will continue as IPL chairman, while Mamon Majumdar from Mizoram has been appointed to the IPL Governing Council, and Jaydev Shah of Saurashtra to the Apex Council.
The appointments came after weeks of deliberations where names of former players such as Sourav Ganguly, Harbhajan Singh, and others were considered but not finalized. The new team reflects a balance of regions, with special focus on the Northeast and smaller states.
Observers note that Mithun Manhas and Raghuram Bhat are the major gainers in this reshuffle, while figures like Rohan Gauns Dessai and Avishek Dalmiya have been sidelined. Sources said the smooth process was made possible by consensus within key stakeholders and the backing of influential figures inside the BCCI.
With this, BCCI once again avoided any election battle, reflecting unity among its power centres and setting the stage for the next phase of Indian cricket administration.
