New Delhi : India has made history by clinching a Guinness World Record for the highest number of online selfies as part of the Central government’s ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ initiative. Savitaribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in Maharashtra set the record with an impressive 10,42,538 selfies featuring soil. This achievement surpasses China’s record of around 1 lakh selfies in 2016.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis actively participated in the Guinness World Records Certificate award ceremony held at Mumbai University as part of the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign.
Deputy CM Fadnavis expressed pride in breaking the record and emphasized that the initiative is a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He highlighted the significance of the campaign, which revolves around respecting the soil and commemorating the sacrifices made for the country.
CM Shinde congratulated everyone involved in the campaign, emphasizing that it showcased patriotism. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s respected global standing and praised the state’s contribution to the nation’s direction.
The ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ (MMMD) campaign pays homage to the Army heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The initiative involves collecting sacred soil and rice from households nationwide, placing them in Amrit Kalash containers. The Amrit Kalash Yatra collected soil and rice from over 6 lakh villages and wards, culminating in a finale program in Delhi on October 31.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the event, emphasizing the role of youth in achieving national progress. The campaign saw significant success, with millions of selfies, Shilaphalakams built, Panch Pran pledge selfies uploaded, ‘Veeron ka Vandan’ programs, indigenous saplings planted, and Amrit Vatikas created across the country.
